Slotz Racer iphone app review

There are a bunch of racing games available for the iPod Touch and iPhone, some of them are great some are terrible. But they all have one thing in common; they make use of the accelerometer to control the steering of the cars. Well that changes today!

A few weeks ago I showed a promo video for a new game that was coming soon called SlotZ racer. Well it was released last week. SlotZ its kind of a blast from the past; remember growing up and getting those slot racing games from Aurora and TCR (Total Control Racing) It was great you could buy all kinds of cars to add to your track and race around, do they still make them?  Well SlotZ racer brings the experience back; but this time to your iPhone and iPod Touch.

I didn’t know what to expect from this game, but man was I surprised. It rocks, I spent the last three days playing it. It’s the first racing game that does not use the accelerometer to steer and that’s because you don’t steer. Remember you are on a slot racing track. Your controller is a little button in the bottom right hand side of the screen with an indicator showing how much power you are giving the car. Now you might think that sounds stupid, but just try rounding a hair pin curve at top speed and you’ll see how fast your car flies off the track and ends up on the floor.

This game it all about control, you have to understand when to gun it and when to slow down in order to win a race. The game play is great, the graphics are really cool. The tracks show up in different settings like the floor of your room and the basement. The game developers put in a lot of attention to detail; on one of the tracks you can even see the box of the track off to the side.

It’s ongoing fun, with a ton of different tracks and cars to choose from including building your own tracks using the track builder option. You can play 1 player, 2 player, practice made, quick race and championship mode.

I really love this game, it’s a lot of fun, it’s very competitive and a lot of imagination went into it which you don’t see often in racing games. I really can’t see anything else they could have added to this game. It’s a gem out of the box.

They are running a special of .99 for the first three days and I believe it will go up to $2.99 after that, but in all reality if I would have paid $9.99 for it I would have been happy as well.

We give SlotZ top honors of 5 thumbs up

Raging Thunder, real sweet racing on the iPhone

January 2, 2009 · Filed Under Games · Comment

If you have read any of my past blog posts you will realize that I’m a big fan of racing games, I think I have tried them all. Raging Thunder is one of the old apps for the iPhone. I never really gave it the time It deserved because I was so involved in some of the other racing games that came out.

Well just last week I sat down and gave Raging Thunder the attention it deserved. First things first; the graphics are pretty darn cool, the tracks are tight and take some practice to drive. The race is very hard, you really have to be a good driver to come in anything other than last place. The best I have finished has been second and that was driving a near perfect race. This may turn off some people; but I like a game that is a little hard.

There is no shortage of racing games for the iPhone; I will say that Raging Thunder is a very good game that is well worth the money.

We give it 4 thumbs up.
