The NFL Playoffs on your iPhone and iPod Touch with the iSports app

December 29, 2008 · Filed Under Entertainment · Comments

There are several NFL apps out there and I think I have used them all, but I’m very excited about iSports for the iPhone and iPod Touch. This app has delivered what all the others have tried to do and failed. It delivers up to the minute play by play, all the scores in real time, standings and breaking news. For instance I just found out the Jets fired Mangini today:) (sorry I could not help myself, go Dolphins).

This is a real sweet app, it runs smooth has a nice little ticker on the bottom and is just well done. Using while watching the game proved to be a little behind but if your not in front of the TV there is nothing better. In addition to the NFL is also follows NBA, NCAAF and MLB.

It’s a nice little app for the sports fan at heart.

We’re giving it 4 thumbs up, only because we still want to see video highlights on an NFL app.

Visual Searching on the iPhone with Cooliris

December 29, 2008 · Filed Under Utilities · Comments

I first came across CoolIris as a plugin for my Safari browser. But now that it’s available as an iPhone app.  Let’s face it we live in a visual world so why not search in a visual application? CoolIris is a really well designed app and works flawlessly on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

It’s very simple to use.

You have two options on the main screen “Discover” and “Search”. If you know what your searching for simply hit the search button choose from the list of sites to search; currently YouTube, Google, Flickr, Yahoo, SmugMug and DevianArt. A search box opens and the keyboard pops up. Type in your keyword and three rows of photos pop up simply scroll your finger, see a photo that interests you just click on it. The photo opens and a description appears on the bottom of the screen showing the website, image url and the ability to download the photo or email it.

Going back to the main screen and clicking the “discover button” gives you some preset search catagories including Cool Videos, Wallpaper, Entertainment News, Business, Tech, News and Sports. So if you just want to sit back and look for something interesting this is the feature to use.

The interface is what make this app so nice, it’s well designed, easy to use and just fun to play with. Who ever thought searching using photos would be so much fun.

This app is a hands down 5 thumbs up. We love it and use it on a regular basis.

Cool upcoming racing game for the iPhone and iPod Touch

December 29, 2008 · Filed Under Games · Comments

We changed our format a little; in addition to iPhone App reviews we are also reporting on iPhone news, accessories, movies in the iTunes store and opinions, but the bulk of our work will always be iPhone app reviews.

That said I’d like to show you a preview of a new racing game being released at MacWorld next week. If you are old enough to remember TCR Racing from the late 70’s you are gonna be interested in this game; I have to say interested because we have not had a chance to play it so I cannot comment on the game play yet. But it looks cool. It’s a slot racer game set up on a living room floor. You are one of 4 cars going around the track in a race to the finish. What looks cool is the attention to detail in that you can modify the track by adding curves and straight runs. No price has been set but it looks like hours a fun ahead.

We will be posting a review as soon as we get our hands on it. In the meantime check out the preview video below:

Nice slim case for the iPhone

December 27, 2008 · Filed Under Accessory Updates · Comments

One of my biggest beefs with the iPhone is that it’s so sexy looking I hate to keep it in an ugly case. Case designers just don’t get it; they think the case is all about them. Truth is who wants to cover up their iPhone in one of these bulky ugly cases? No one does. Yet you really do need a case because there is nothing uglier than a scratched up iPhone. Another issue is that these case companies are charging anywhere from $29.00 - $50.00 for a case, a stinking case that cost them almost nothing to make.

We found the solution. The elago iPhone 3G slim Fit Case. This is a sweet little case that snaps onto the back and protects the iPhone from getting all scratched up. It comes in several colors and does not add any bulk to the iPhone at all. The elago sells for $19.99 but you can find it on Amazon for $10.99. Can’t beat that price.

I really like the elago, it has a nice clean look, comes in a rainbow of colors and protects the iPhone while still showing the iPhone’s sexy front side. Use the link below to get the elago case for $10.99

5 signs you might be addicted to your iPhone

December 26, 2008 · Filed Under Entertainment · Comments

The iPhone basically recreated the cellular phone market and for good reason; it’s by far the hottest phone on the market. The reason it’s so hot is because it’s more than a phone it’s your PDA, MP3 player, Newscaster, GPS, Internet surfer, Email getter, IM communicator. Should I go on? I think you get the point.

That said this little device could get pretty addictive. Here are 5 signs you might have an addiction:

1. You find the email so enjoyable to use that you read and reply to all your spam.

2. You just spent the last 4 hours on Facebook

3. You’re playing video games night and day, the last time you played a video game was on the Atari 2600

4. You’re 57 years old and you just opened up a MySpace page

5. You find that you go into a massive deppresion and have panic attacks when you get the 20% battery pop up warning.

For those of you who just got an iPhone for Christmas, come back and read this again in 2 weeks :)

Save a whopping $2.00 by buying your iPhone at Wal-Mart!

December 26, 2008 · Filed Under Opinions · Comments

I received my weekly Wal-Mart flyer in the mailbox on Christmas Eve, and taking up the entire cover was the iPhone 3G at the Wal-Mart price of $197.00. Do you really think this is going to sell any additional iPhones, I’m not really sure. Knowing how demanding Wal-Mart is will Apple put up with the BS? Who knows.

Everything is cheaper at Wal-Mart even if it’s just a few dollars.

Are you hot or not?

December 25, 2008 · Filed Under Entertainment · Comments

Not sure if you are considered a hotty? Or perhaps you think you are a hottie but others may not agree. Or your just but ugly and love the abuse by finding out what other people think.

Maybe you like judging people for fun. If you fall into any of these catagories then you need to download the Yo Hottie iPhone app from the app store. It’s a pretty basic concept very much like the Am I hot or not website from a few years ago. People upload their photos and other people rate them on their looks. Be forwarned though you will find two types of people on this site, the really hot airhead type or the really ugly, so much so that you can’t figure out why they would post a photo of them selves.

The interface is easy to use, you can preselect male, female or both and then the photo pops up and you click on the stars under the photo, then it moves onto the next photo. The database of photos is growing as the app gets more popular, and if you have nothing to do and want to waste a few minutes or maybe a few hours if your the stalker type; then you will enjoy Yo Hottie. Download this free app today and try it for yourself.

I’m giving it 3 thumbs up.
