iPod Video vs. iPod Touch

February 10, 2009 · Filed Under Opinions · 2 Comments

I’ve been asked a few times over the last week; “what ipod should I buy? The ipod video or the iPod Touch”?

It’s actually a very good question, and my answer is….it depends on your needs. The iPod video is a really good ipod it has a huge hard drive and holds a ton of media. If all you want to do is listen to music and that’s it then the ipod video might be a good choice.

The ipod touch on the other hand is so much more than an ipod, in fact right now I have no music on my ipod touch and I carry it everywhere. The touch is a multi-media device which allows you to not only listen to music but it also allows you to:

  • Watch movies and tv shows in wide screen
  • Listen to streaming Internet radio
  • Surf the Internet
  • Use your email
  • Check your calendar
  • Carry your pictures around with you
  • Play games
  • IM friends
  • Update your Facebook page
  • Update your linkedin page
  • Buy a book on Amazon.com
  • Keep track of your ebay auctions
  • Read a newspaper
  • Read a book
  • Connect to your desktop
  • Watch YouTube
  • Watch Welcome Back Kotter on Joost
  • Download a podcast
  • Copy a file from your computer
  • And so much more.
The iPod Touch is by far the best iPod ever made and is so over shadowed by the iPhone.

Amazon Kindle2 still not a replacement for my iPhone ebook reader app.

February 10, 2009 · Filed Under Entertainment · Comment

The ebook reader market changed last week when Amazon released the Kindle2. Up until now the iPhone’s ebook reader for me was a nice alternative to any of the ebook readers on the market. Mainly because the Sony model stuck you buying over priced books from them, and the Kindle was so darn ugly it looks like it was designed in the 80′s.

But the new Kindle2 loos sweet, and the feature set is just darn cool. However the $359.00 price tag is still a little high and you have to pay to read blogs you can read for free on your iPhone.

The one feature I like on the Kindle is the ability to have the book read back to you, but I can do that by downloading a book from my Audible account.

The Kindle is cool, but a bit over priced compared to the iPhone and everything I get with it.

I think I’ll buy a book to read on my iTouch today :)

Sirius/XM iPhone app on the way

February 10, 2009 · Filed Under News · Comment

I just found out over the weekend that the long awaited Sirius/XM iPhone app is in the hands of Apple waiting for approval, iteresting that it has taken so long to get this done. But it’s still unconfirmed and at this point just rumor. But the info comes from a reliable source.

This would be a positive thing for the struggling satelite radio giant; but until you see it in the app store it’s just rumor.

Is the iPhone prone to easy display cracking

February 3, 2009 · Filed Under Entertainment · 1 Comment

I have a PC friend of mine, let’s call him Richard to protect his identity. Richard purchased an iPhone about a year ago and has loved it. He constantly brags about the call quality and is always downloading all kinds of apps and has filled the 16GB of memory with everything from Tiffany to Dokken. He has become an iPhone lover.

Now a year later he drops his phone and it SLAMS against the concrete and the display shatters. So annoyed at Apple for developing a phone without a shatterproof display he bashes the very product he loved only one year ago.

So his choice now is to buy a new phone or walk around with an iPhone with a shattered display. He chooses to keep the shattered display thinking he will do everything in his power to ruin Apples good name. But for the 3 or 4 people our friend Richard may influence more than likely other PC users; we Apple warlords say go buy a Windows Smartphone and live the rest of your days in misery.

RadioShift Touch iPhone App Review

February 2, 2009 · Filed Under Entertainment · 1 Comment

Well I found it! Yes, I found the best iPhone app for listening to streaming media. Rouge Amoeba’s RadioShift Touch. It’s so great I’ll be canceling my XM subscription because I just can’t wait for XM to release their app if they ever will, and RadioShift Touch has every I listen on XM anyway.

First let me tell you about RadioTime. RadioTime is an online streaming media site that connects to thousands of online radio stations for FREE, for a one time payment of $29.99 you have the ability to record programs to listen to later. Well RadioShift Touch brings this great service to the iPhone and iPod Touch and it is fantastic.

You have the ability to save your favorite programs, search by city, title, genre, etc. The streaming audio is perfect no buffering at all just smooth and enjoyable. In fact RadioShift Touch uses a technology called SmartStream that finds the best quality stream for your station. You can buy this app today in the app store for $9.99; yes that is a little more than most apps but it’s hundreds cheaper than an XM Radio subscription and you get it all, talk, sports, music, news everything you can imagine.

  • The Sean Hannity Show
  • Michael Savage
  • Dr. Laura Schlessinger
  • The Glenn Beck Show
  • Laura Ingraham
  • The Dennis Miller Show
  • Bruce Williams
  • CNN
  • ESPN
  • Fox News
  • Leo Laporte
  • CSPAN
  • Dave Ramsey
  • Bloomberg Radio
  • Business Talk Radio Network
  • The Dan Patrick Show
  • Car Talk
  • Motley Fool Radio
  • NPR
  • Handle On The Law
The list of shows goes on and on, all this including all the music you could ever want.
The programming is GREAT, the interface is fantastic, I love everything about this app and was more than happy to pay the $9.99. In fact I would have been happy to pay up to $39.00 for it. I just think of all the money it’s saving me on my XM plan which I pay $55.00 every 3 months for.
We give this app 5 thumbs up all the way.

Flash on the iPhone, Yesss!

February 2, 2009 · Filed Under News · 1 Comment

Word is that Adobe and Apple are working together to bring Flash to the iPhone. This is the next big thing. Bigger than you can imagine. No it’s not about little Flash animations on the iPhone. It’s about Flash video on the iPhone and being able to watch Hulu.com and listen to XM Radio’s web player and all that missing stuff.
